5th Annual D?a de los Muertos Celebration

More than 1500 community members are expected to attend this 5th Annual event in City Heights, San Diego to celebrate the the lives of loved-ones who have passed away. Some 25 altars commemorating the dead will be built by residents and community groups in a tradition that scholars trace back to indigenous observances more than 2,000 years ago.
The purpose of the Day of the Dead event in City Heights is to celebrate the Mexican Dia de los Muertos tradition of creating altars to honor the dead and to educate the community on this important cultural tradition.

Activities will include:
- Shrines created by community groups and residents, a police memorial altar
- School tours- 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM
- Appearances by elected officials (1:45 pm Todd Gloria, 3:30 PM Marti Emerald, 4 pm Tony Young)
- Cultural performances by various entertainers from 3-8:00 PM
- Blessing of the altars: Aztec Dancers ?Capolli Mexicatl〃
- Arts and crafts
- Authentic Mexican food
