Talk: Buddhist Pilgrimage Sites

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
This lecture will contain the newest archaeological findings and the progress at the Peace Park where nations from around the world are constructing temples and gardens. You will also see inside the dig where the exact place of birth has been found with the marking stone and other evidence that this is indeed the place of Buddha's birth as well as the nearby palace ruins where he lived as a Prince Siddhartha Gautama before giving up his worldly goods and beginning his path to enlightenment. UNESCO and Japan have teamed up to conserve and manage the historic birthplace for the next three years. The site has been listed as a World Heritage site since 1997. Every year since, huge numbers of tourists and pilgrims have been coming and making donations for the continuation and renovation of the site and adjacent museum. Lumbini is located 300 kilometers from Kathmandu, Nepal in the Terai, close to the Indian border.
