Hostelling International USA, San Diego will hold their 5th annual San Diego Peace Building Conference at San Diego City College.
This year's theme is: "Creating Peace By Addressing Systems of Oppression." The conference will connect and empower young adults to make a positive impact on their local and global communities. This year?s keynote speaker will be Iranian-American hiker Josh Fattal who was arrested, jailed by and then released after two years by Iran. Fattal will talk about his and fellow captives' experience and international peace efforts. (Fattal speaks at 6;00 PM). The conference will include numerous workshops, talks, a "Community Building" lunch ($10) and lots of networking and socializing!
More than twenty community organizations and sponsors are participating in or sponsoring the conference. There will be a focus on students, occupiers and local peace work. Also, with the recent deaths of Trayvon Martin and El Cajon resident Shaima Alawadi, the conference will touch on issues of racial injustice, police and the justice system.
