The Center for World Music and SD School of Dance presents traditional Shona music played by group Zimbeat along with musical presentations of the marimba and mbira. Zimbeat is a marimba ensemble that performs the exuberant dance music of Zimbabwe, Africa--a popular style that is based on the traditional music played by the Shona people on a "thumb piano," the mbira dzavadzimu. Hypnotic interlocking melodies and exciting dance rhythms energize this captivating and compelling music.
