Lecture: Scott Farrell on Steampunk Shakespeare

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
As part of their bimonthly free Speaking of Shakespeare lecture, the San Diego Shakespeare Society is proud to welcome speaker Scott Farrell from Chivalry Today to talk about his short story in a new anthology:

"A Midsummer?s Night Steam" by Scott Farrell in The Omnibus of Doctor Bill Shakes and the Magnificent Ionic Pentatetrameter: A Steampunk?s Shakespeare Anthology.

What is steampunk? Think Jules Verne. Think Victorian science fiction. It?s sort of an alternate history where steam-powered technology really took off in Victorian times. It?s both a literary genre and deeply tied into "cosplaying" (costume-play) roots. If you?ve seen someone in Victorian era clothes, wearing goggles and a great hat, perhaps carrying a fantastic ray gun or wearing some sort of contraption which seem to be steampowered, you?ve seen someone in steampunk gear.

Steampunk clothes and gear are welcomed (even encouraged) in their audience for this event. Feel free to dress up and use this as an opportunity to show off. All we ask is that you remember the event is in a library community room, so keep your steam-powered contraptions quiet while inside?no loud steam whistles, gentlemen!
