Miedzian tells the story of how her father managed, against all odds, to live to the age of 94, passing away peacefully in Los Angeles. Born in Poland in 1901, at age 14, during WW1 he was imprisoned and scheduled to be executed on the false accusation of spying. He survived. During the Polish/Soviet war at the risk of execution, he went AWOL. He survived. He moved to Brussels in 1931, when the Germans invaded Belgium in May 1940, he and his wife packed an overnight bag and went to the seashore to get away from the bombing; they never went back. After a challenging and often harrowing exit from Europe via France, Spain, Morocco, the family arrived in New York in July 1941, among the very few who survived the Holocaust.
