Imperial Grounds Coffee will open a photographic exhibit featuring San Diego artist J. Raymond Mireles on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM His new work entitled The ?Evolution of American Culture: The Afro Pick from 1962 to 2016? consists of five individual images of the afro pick as developed and mass produced by the San Diego hair cutter and innovator William Morrow.

The cumulative work uses the evolution of the locally born afro pick as a metaphor to describe the commercialization of American culture. Mireles and two special guests will be at the opening to share the story behind the picks and their effect on African-Americans throughout the years.

The photographs will be displayed from June 17 to July 22, 2016.

Imperial Grounds Coffee is open seven days a week from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
