San Diego celebrates refugees - In a difficult year for refugees, San Diegans show their support.

In a time where refugees are in the news constantly and are stirring up a national controversy, San Diego stands out as a major resettlement city for refugees escaping war and persecution. Our city will join in the recognition of World Refugee Day as usual with events honoring refugees and recognizing their achievements despite the many obstacles they must overcome.

A local non-profit, Alliance for African Assistance, will be holding their 15th annual breakfast celebration honoring refugees for World Refugee Day on June 20. The theme of the event this year is ?Onwards and Upwards: Celebrating Refugee Successes.? Alliance will be celebrating at La Jolla Presbyterian Church on Monday June 20, 2016 from 8:30 to 10:30 AM The goal of the event is to raise awareness of refugee issues throughout the county.

Guests will have the opportunity to hear from refugee speakers and performers who have been resettled in the area. Through this event, Alliance hopes to strengthen the connection between refugees and the larger San Diego community by bringing a diverse group together to celebrate the refugees? new beginnings.
