San Diego Italian Film Festival presents "Se Dio Vuole."
A big box-office success in Italy, ?Se Dio vuole? is as intelligent as it is funny, pitting an acerbic and brilliant atheist doctor against a charming, scampish and also brilliant priest ? who happens to have a mysterious past. They enter into a contest initially over the soul of the atheist?s son, who is supposed to follow in his dad?s footsteps, but they ultimately wrestle over belief ? not religious belief but a belief in life and people. Surgeon Tommaso depends on his infinite superiority, he?s arrogant and truly insufferable with those closest to him, and he sees himself as the savior of life. His son Andrea makes an announcement that sets the whole family along the comic path of discovery and misadventure completely changing everyone in the family ? wife, daughter, son-in-law, priest and doctor. And who is the instigator of such profound change? None other than Don Pietro, a very hip priest who knows all about change and redemption and who is helping Andrea explore his own path. This film has been well-praised for its fine direction, timing, and snappy story-telling. Throw in an ancient but very Italian conflict and some great laughs and you have a model for new Italian comedy.
The film is shown in Italian with English subtitles.
Admission/Cost:
