Border X Brewing is hosting an event to celebrate the forthcoming documentary about Ramon ?Chunky? Sanchez.
Chunky is a Chicano musician and San Diego activist whose music has been a force for social justice over the last 35 years. The event will feature live music from local artists, clips from the film and behind-the-scenes stories from filmmaker Paul Espinosa and others.
The documentary, "Singing My Way to Freedom," chronicles Chunky?s life from his humble beginnings as a farmworker in Blythe, Calif. to receiving the National Heritage Fellowship at the Library of Congress in Washington DC in 2013.
The event at Border X Brewing is the official launch party for a Kickstarter campaign that will raise finishing funds for the documentary. Local musicians will provide music for the evening. Attendees will have also the opportunity to bid on various pieces of art created by local Chicano artists supporting the project, including Isaias Crow, Mario Torero, Yessenia ErthOne Hulsey, Roberto Rios, Mario Chacon, Joe Hernandez, Mario Lopez and Joni Nunez.
