7-time Grammy-nominated Cuban composer and jazz pianist Omar Sosa has assembled a new Duo with award-winning German trumpet player, Joo Kraus.
Omar is a musician extraordinaire composer, arranger, pianist, percussionist, improvisatore, and communicator. His Afro-Cuban mix of jazz and world music is broadly expressive - full of power and passion, subtlety and grace. Omar draws from each culture he touches: the energy and storytelling of hip-hop, the free-spirited experimentation of jazz, the heartfelt emotion of an Afro-Ecuadorian choir, the sensuality of popular Cuban music, the hypnotic trance of Gnawa ritual. The result is a modern, urban music with a Latin jazz heart.
The duo exemplifies Omar's philosophy of jazz as freedom. Its music is improvisation based, with each player bringing expression of his musical roots to the collective experience.
Admission/Cost:
Thursday, November 17 - 7:00 PM
