The San Diego Symphony welcomes "the Sinatra of flamenco," Diego el Cigala.

Diego El Cigala is a trailblazer and innovator whose distinctive voice has inspired others to call him ?the Sinatra of flamenco.? Winner of multiple Latin Grammys, El Cigala has enhanced his Spanish gypsy heritage with acclaimed forays into the Argentine tango tradition and, most recently, salsa.

Diego El Cigala will be backed by a 10-piece salsa band featuring two trumpets, two trombones, a Latin percussion section and two vocalists, anchored by Cigala?s longtime collaborators, the pianist and arranger Jaime Calabuch and bassist Yelsy Heredia.

This concert will features several selections from Diego El Cigala's latest release, Indestructible, in which he re-imagines the classic salsa (salsa dura or "hard salsa") sound.

The San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program.
