The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice and the San Diego-based organization Breaking the Silence Together will host an event to raise awareness about human sex trafficking ? ?Walk in their Shoes: Standing with Survivors of Sex Trafficking?. In addition to drawing attention to the problem, the event will provide a platform for victims to share their stories and an opportunity for community members to learn about ways to support victims and the organizations working to prevent trafficking and promote healing.
The event will feature:
- A visual art exhibit;
- Opening remarks from Chief Deputy District Attorney Summer Stephan;
- A panel discussion featuring Dr. Ami Carpenter of the Kroc School of Peace Studies, Rachel Robitz, MD, a UCSD community psychiatry fellow, and Danny Santiago, the Task Force Commander of the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force;
- Theatrical performance;
- Music from Sarah Carpio, Nancy Cordova and Rebecca Ottinger;
- Candle lighting ceremony; and
- An exhibition of San Diego community organizations
