Passport to Worlds of Music: Australia

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
This will be the first program in the Passport to Worlds of Music 2017 series. In this special music and lecture concert, guest artist Randin Graves will introduce you to the sounds, aesthetics, and cultural significance of the indigenous musical traditions of Australia.

Aboriginal Music of Australia with Randin Graves

Randin Graves was just another kid from southern California, but he grew up to be one of the world?s leading non-Aboriginal exponents of the didgeridoo. He has enjoyed a 20+ year career as performer and teacher.

An Australian-American Fulbright scholar, Randin eventually became a dual Australian-American citizen. He was manager of the esteemed Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre in the remote Aboriginal township of Yirrkala from 2004?2009. In a special honor, he was appointed as an ambassador of the didgeridoo and its culture by two governments and a council of Aboriginal elders.

In a fun, educational and inspiring evening, Randin will use pictures, video, live performance, and storytelling to enlighten us about this instrument and the culture that invented it. He will detail his own journey from the American suburbs to a remote corner of Australia and back. Anyone interested in music, insights into other cultures, or people taking a leap outside of their own comfort zone will love this presentation.
