Italian Film: Le Confessioni

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
The great Toni Servillo plays a robed monk with a trick up his sleeve in Roberto And??s thriller. Amid the European financial crisis, a cabal of finance leaders from the G8 countries has gathered in a posh German hotel to hash things out. Servillo?s Roberto Salus is a guest of honour, and on his first night there he hears the confession of International Monetary Fund head Daniel Roch? (Daniel Auteuil). When this bigwig is found dead by suicide the next morning, the intrigue begins: Why did he kill himself? What secrets did he divulge to Salus? Did Salus capture them with the digital recorder he?s been seen carrying?

Mystery meets satire as the film unfolds, mocking the venality of the super-rich and the so-called experts that serve them. The dialogue is witty and urbane, the setting is sumptuous in its luxury and the cast is delectable. Servillo and Auteuil are superb, as usual, and they share the screen with pros like Lambert Wilson and Connie Nielsen. Equal parts Agatha Christie and Occupy, this is a congenial film with a sharp sting in its tail.
