The World Baseball Classic is the premier international baseball tournament, sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), and operated as a joint venture between Major League Baseball and its Players Association. The Tournament features the best players in the world competing for their home countries and territories.

More than 2.4 million fans from all over the world have attended the tournament games, held in March 2006, March 2009 and March 2013. Team Dominican Republic is the reigning World Baseball Classic Champion after going undefeated during its 2013 championship run. This year's tournament will again feature the greatest baseball-playing nations in the world. The tournament will be held every four years thereafter.

Following a qualifying round held in Feb., March and Sept. of 2016, the 16-team field is now set for the main event from March 6-22, 2017. The games will span the globe, taking place across six venues, beginning with Seoul, Tokyo, Miami and Jalisco in the First Round. During the Second Round, teams will head to Tokyo and San Diego on the way to the Championship Round in Los Angeles.
