For this month?s third Saturday lecture, Herman Li is going to talk about ?Nationalism in Early 20th Century.? The theme of 20th century Chinese history is building a modern nation-state and nationalism is the core value that represents this development.
While political scientists strive to define a series of historical events as stages of growing nationalism, historians find the connection sometimes far-fetched. This lecture is to re-investigate the presence and development of nationalism in early 20th century Chinese society, especially among common people.
