Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
The Edo Marionettes Troupe is on tour from Tokyo and will perform enchanting ayatsuri ningyo (string-controlled puppets), a powerful puppet tradition that came to Japan from China around 360 years ago. This exciting program includes four vignettes: Kappore, a solo male marionette performing a fun, energetic dance; Yoidore, a stumbling drunkard; Kurokami, the touching story of a beautiful young woman in love; and Shishimai, the wild Lion Dance.

English translation will be provided. Master folk musician, Grego, will give a puppet-powered musical introduction. Tickets include full admission to the Japanese Friendship Garden. Group discounts available. Not recommended for under eight years old. This special cross-cultural event was made possible by the collaborative efforts of the San Diego Guild of Puppetry and the Japanese Friendship Garden. Info: 619-222-0100.
