Shakespeare Film Screenings At The Globe

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
As a compliment to The Old Globe's summer stage productions, there will be free screenings of Shakespearean cinema throughout the summer.

The series is curated by Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, and some films will be introduced by KPBS film critic Beth Accomando. All screenings are free and general admission seating is first-come, first-served. Lineups begin an hour before each screening.

The schedule includes:

A Midsummer Night's Dream, June 26 at the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Film begins at 8:15:00 PM

Directed by Julie Taymor, this imaginative adaptation was filmed with a live audience during its 2014 New York run.

King Lear, July 17 in the Old Globe Theatre. Film begins at 7:00 PM

A 1971 version under the direction of Peter Brooks. It was filmed in a bleak and frozen Danish landscape and stars Paul Scofield as King Lear.

Looking for Richard, Aug. 7 in the Old Globe Theatre. Film begins at 7:00 PM

Inspired by Richard III, Al Pacino's documentary explores the play's history and meaning, gathering opinions from renowned scholars to random New Yorkers.

Romeo + Juliet, Aug. 28 at the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Film begins at 8:00 PM

This updated version was directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Claire Danes as Juliet and Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo.
