Celebrate the Sister City relationship between Encinitas and Amakusa, Japan at the 8th Annual Japan Festival on Saturday, August 5 from 1 to 4 pm at the Encinitas branch of the San Diego County Library.

The festival, planned and hosted by the Encinitas Library in partnership with the City of Encinitas, features performances by La Jolla Taiko Drummers, Miyuki Geta Dance Art, and Yasuko Fosket Tea Ceremony. Other activities include origami and kendama toy demonstrations. There will be giveaways, refreshments, and Japanese-themed books, movies, and music available for checkout. Parking can be found at the library, City Hall, or the Encinitas Coaster Station, as well as on-street.

This year the festivities will include six high school student delegates and their chaperone from Amakusa, Japan, who will interact live via Skype over the Internet with their families, friends and elected officials back home in Amakusa. Through this use of technology, Encinitas and Amakusa will be able to share a glimpse of their respective cultures face to face, while oceans apart.
