Christoph Willibald Gluck's rarely performed masterpiece, "Armide," features some of the most beautiful and dramatic music of the eighteenth century France.
It is based on the same dramatic poem by Tasso (Jerusalem Delivered) as was Handel's Rinaldo in our 2015 season.
This opera also looks at the magical love affair between the hero Renaud (Rinaldo) and sorceress Armide (Armida), but this time from the viewpoint of the heroine.
Stephanie Havey, the young, trailblazer opera director will stage this unique, "tour de force" opera under the San Diego stars.
