In this hands-on workshop, guests are invited to bring a broken plate and learn the traditional Japanese art of kintsugi, the practice of repairing ceramics with gold. Guided by Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum staff, participants will carefully reassemble their piece while learning the philosophy behind this centuries-old technique. Kintsugi teaches us to see beauty in imperfection and to honor an object’s history rather than hide its flaws. By repairing what is broken, we celebrate resilience, transformation, and mindful making. No prior experience is necessary. This workshop is open to beginners and curious makers alike. The guest can practice on the small sauce dish that we provide before working on their own precious piece.
