IHF was founded by Carol Maisara Sasaki, a recognized leader in volunteer and non-profit work. Her experience of over 23 years led her to seek empowering solutions for the issue of poverty. IHF functions through volunteers worldwide sharing the same core belief that busy, ordinary individuals of varied faiths, can change the world for the better because of their desire to help others. Its programs are focused in Kenya, Indonesia, and Thailand, working with the poorest of the poor who have often been marginalized throughout their lives.
