Teller Magi Festival

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
For the fourteenth year the Bonita Museum will feature the Teller Magi Collection. Dr. Harris Teller, who started the collection in 1952, has amassed over 750 sets of the Three Kings, as they are known in Bible lore. When he started his collection, Teller was a hospital corpsman on board a Navy ship in Pusan Harbor. ?There were several men ill in sickbay that Christmas and they wanted something for decorations,? he said. As Dr. Teller is Jewish, he was not sure what they had in mind. After buying a Christmas tree, he hurried out and bought a cr?che that had been made in Japan. This was the first set and Dr. Teller prizes it. It remains a part of the collection and will be on view with all the rest. Today the collection ranges from graceful Lladro figures from Spanish and cheery Hummel sets from Germany to some primitive groups handmade for him by special people. One set was made by students at the Sweetwater Activity Center. This event will be held from November 19, 2006 to January 7, 2007.
