Director Clint Eastwood's companion piece to Flags of Our Fathers tells the story of the battle of Iwo Jima between the United States and Imperial Japan during World War II from the perspective of the Japanese who fought it. Acclaimed actor Ken Watanabe (Memoirs of a Geisha, The Last Samurai) stars as real-life Japanese General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, who battled American troops for 40 days on the small island. Eastwood also composed the film's original music score. Co-starring Kazunari Ninomiya, Shido Nakamura, Tsuyoshi Ihara and Ryo Kase.
