The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum invites readers to a lecture and book signing on by John Jung, author of ?Chinese Laundries and Southern Fried Rice,? from 2-4:00 PM at the museum. Jung will give a short talk followed by a reception with light refreshments in the museum garden. His latest book, ?Chinese Laundries: Tickets to Survival on the Gold Mountain,? tells why and how his and other families entered the laundry business, and describes the social and legal discrimination that they overcame. This social history includes firsthand accounts from many Chinese Americans whose road to success was paved with their parents? sweat, tears and long hours behind the counters in Chinese laundries.
