The 2008 Indian Fair weekend begins with the Preview Reception on Friday, May 16. The reception will be catered by local favorite El Indio and will feature live music by flautist Mac Lopez. Mr. Lopez has also donated one of his handmade flutes for the evening's silent auction. Other auction items include an Abrazo Final III painting by Irene Carranza, a Paiute inlaid ring by Michael Rogers, and an Athabaskan miniature mask by last year's Cultural Items winner, Glenda McKay.
During the reception, awards will be presented to the winning artists entered in the Friday afternoon juried competition. The competition categories include Weaving, Beadwork, Pottery, Metal Jewelry, Cultural Items, Painting/Mixed Media, Sculpture, Woodcarving, and Non-metal Jewelry. The winning pieces will also be available for purchase throughout the weekend.
The Preview Reception is open to the general public, as well as participating artists and Museum members. Ticket prices for the reception are $15 for Museum Members and $25 for the general public.
Admission includes dinner, two complimentary drinks, live entertainment, the opportunity to participate in the silent auction, a special preview of the weekend's art market, and access to the exhibitions.
