Most visitors would never dream that the serene rural valley of La Misi?n could burst into action for one of the largest outdoor festivals of its type in Baja. But that?s exactly what will happen on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25 at the 29th La Misi?n Fiesta, a celebration honoring the valley?s discovery by Spanish explorers in 1769, its rich mission history and its native inhabitants. The family-oriented event offers arts and crafts, cultural exhibits, colorful folkloric dancers, live music, lots of delicious home-style Mexican food, and an action-packed Mexican country rodeo known as a vaquer?a.

Sunday?s festivities will begin at 9:00 AM with the opening of the ?Micro-History of La Misi?n? exhibition, followed by a thanksgiving mass at the mission site and then a civic and school parade. Folkloric dancing will begin on the stage at 12:30pm and continue throughout the afternoon. Nearly one dozen folkloric troupes from La Misi?n, Rosarito, Tijuana and San Ysidro, California will perform traditional dances from the different states of Mexico. Don?t miss the exotic ?Danza del Borrego Cimarr?n (Dance of the Bighorn Sheep)? at 1pm by the Kicukpaico Dance Group. At 5pm the Compa??a de Danza de Baja California will present a special performance of ?Nativo,? a music and dance production based on the history of Baja California.
