Flower arrangement with Polly Liew and Jean Cheng. Demonstration planned in conjunction with People, Prints, Politics: China 1920-1980.

Polly Liew was born in China and grew up in Taiwan. She received her bachelor?s degree in Botany from National Taiwan University and Ph.D. in Textile Chemistry from Texas Woman?s University in 1975. Polly has been very active in civic and community activities. She was the founding president of the San Diego Chinese American Woman?s League. Currently, she is a board member of San Diego Historical Society, San Diego Chinese Historical Museum, San Diego Chinese Art Society, and also a member of the Asian Pacific Thematic Historic District Advisory committee, CCDC. Polly loves the art of flower arrangement. She learned Japanese Ikebana while she was attending college and learned European flower arrangement at UCSD and Athenaeum school of the arts in San Diego. For the past eight years she and her team volunteered to do all the flower arrangements for the annual banquets of the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum.

Jean Cheng is a graduate of the University of Kansas in Business and Accounting. She has also been a Board Member of the San Diego Chinese American Women?s League from 1993 to 1999. Jean has taught flower arrangement to many people over the years, including school groups from San Marcos High and La Jolla County Day.
