Once a sleeping giant, China today is the world's fastest growing economy. It is the leading manufacturer of cell phones, laptop computers, and digital cameras?a dramatic turnaround that alarms many Westerners. Yet, according to Dr. Susan Shirk of UCSD, the real danger of Chinese politics is not the country's rapid growth, but the insecurity of its leaders. Dr. Shirk will discuss this topic, the subject of her book China: Fragile Superpower.
