Year-Long Philippine Cinema Showcase Launches August 22 with Oscar Nominated Feature, Donsol.
More than 400 people are expected to attend the launch of a groundbreaking, year-long Philippine Cinema Showcase (PCS), on August 22 at the Chula Vista UltraStar Cinemas, with the kick-off of the film, Donsol, the Philippines' official entry to the Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film Award. Directed by Adolfo Alix, Jr., Donsol is a beautifully crafted romance film about a heartbroken whale shark guide, set in the turquoise waters of Donsol, Philippines.
Director Alix is scheduled to attend the Donsol screening at 7:00 PM, on opening night, August 22, at the UltraStar Chula Vista 10 theaters located at 555 Broadway, Chula Vista, California. Congressman Bob Filner and representatives from the Chula Vista mayor's office are also expected to attend, as well as dozens of business and community leaders.
Along with Donsol, the Philippine Cinema Showcase (PCS) will open one new, contemporary Philippine film every week for an entire year, along with older, rarely-seen titles. Films from other Asian countries will also receive highlighting from time-to-time.
