In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Oceanside Public Library is hosting Noche Mexicana, a celebration of the vibrant culture of Mexico through its music, dance and artistic traditions. An exhibition inside the Library will honor Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. The exhibition will run through the month of September. The Noche Mexicana celebration begins at 4:00 PM with official greetings, followed by music and dances representing many regions of Mexico including: Ballet Folklorico Tapatio from Jalisco; Danza de Los Diablos from Oaxaca; Ballet Tierra Caliente from Veracruz; and the famed Michoac??n La Danza de los Viejitos.

A variety of delicious Mexican food will be available for purchase. Children will have fun in the craft area making colorful paper flowers and papel picado (cut paper). Students from Palomar College will perform a delightful puppet show about Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Members of local organizations will also be on hand to provide information on useful services that are available in the community. The evening will conclude with El Grito de Dolores, Father Miguel Hidalgo???s inspiring speech which became the rallying cry of Mexican Independence Day, presented by a representative from the Mexican Consul and Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood.
