African Music and Dance Concert Featuring Dances of Ghana, West Africa
Join students from Madison High School, Innovation Middle School, and Creative Performing Media Arts Middle School for an evening of drumming, dancing, and singing.
The performance will consist of several dances from Ghana including Kpanlogo, Bawa and Gahu as well as an Ewe vocal piece. Students will also perform a choir piece from South Africa and a Mali drumming game. Also on tap is an Anansi story that will be woven through the evening???s program.
Students at these schools have been studying music and dance of Ghana with John Flood and Kathie Zaccaria, co-directors of Ho-Asogli, a drumming and dance ensemble based in San Diego. States Zaccaria, All of these students drum, dance and sing and they get the cultural context behind each dance they learn.
