Attracting over 20,000 ticket holders, the SDJFF presents approximately 40 short-subject, documentary and feature films, an international roster of guest artists, special Underwriter events and theme programs for all ages. The SDJFF aims to educate and illuminate audiences by offering an array of films that depict elements of the Jewish life, history, and culture in challenging, moving, and humorous ways as never seen before.
The festival kicks off with The Little Traitor, based on Amos Oz’s novel Panther in the Basement and starring Alfred Molina. It follows the journey of young Proffy Liebowitz and his friends in their plot against the occupying British in 1947 Palestine. Proffy’s perspective changes, however, when he becomes friends with British soldier Sergeant Dunlop, played by Molina. This new friendship complicates his standing with his friends and the entire Jewish community. This uplifting, heart-warming story is perfect for all ages.
