Marcus Garvey Day Celebration

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
WorldBeat Center presents The Annual Marcus Garvey Day featuring Pablo Moses live in concert!

Marcus Mosiah Garvey, a prominent African leader, was born August 17, 1887 in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica. Garvey was the first to forcefully speak about the concept of African nationalism, of black people returning to Africa, the continent of their forefathers, in order to build a nation of their own. His writings and ideas inspired many leaders of the civil rights movement during the second half of the twentieth century.

Honoring Marcus Garvey Day, Pablo Moses performs reggae music born in Jamaica. Moses's lyrics address many Rastafarian themes. His vocals feauture a horn-like voice over rhythms and harmonies.
