3rd Annual Italian Film Festival

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
The San Diego Italian Film Festival celebrates its third year, starting October 16 through November 7. The festival provides an opportunity for all Italians and lovers of Italian culture to rediscover passion, love, and the best flavors of life in this season’s festival.

This year's San Diego Italian Film Festival features major recently released Italian films by internationally acclaimed award-winning directors. Festival films have English subtitles.

The Festival is made possible through a collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Los Angeles, the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park, and the Ministero degli Affari Esteri in Rome and independent distributors.

Festival continues until Saturday, November 7

The film for October 23rd is: "My Name is Tanino."
Literature is central to "My Name is Tanino." The film's director, Virzì, likened the adventures of the protagonist to those of a contemporary Pinocchio whose good intentions and naiveté lead him into trouble. Tanino is bored by his Sicilian village and curious to explore the world. With the excuse of following an American girl he met during the summer, he embarks on a voyage that will bring him to "discover" America and a series of colorful characters. Like in La vera leggenda di Tony Vilar, that will also be screened in this year’s festival, My Name is Tanino paints an amusing picture of Italian American culture seen with the eyes of a dreamer. (Review by Prof. Pasqual Verdiccio, UCSD)
