Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
As global energy needs increase, more varied sources of energy are being exploited. What are the impacts of the different sources and how quickly will renewables be able to meet pressing energy demands? How do we compare the relative costs to the environment and the carbon footprints of these sources? In reaction to the accidents past, including the recent one at Fukushima, what place has nuclear power in the US and the world, and what are the new strategies for managing nuclear waste? Is there an imperative for America to have a strong nuclear power industry? More locally, how has the shutdown of San Onofre nuclear station impacted the environment and the reliability of Southern California?s grid system?

Mehdi Sarram has a postgraduate degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Michigan. From 1967 to 1974, he was nuclear reactor supervisor and assistant professor at University of Tehran. He then was a Director at Iran?s Atomic Energy Organization. Mehdi worked with the International Atomic Energy Agency Department of Safeguards in 1981. Since then, he has been in the US at senior management positions with Raytheon, Duke Energy and AREVA. He has traveled to 38 countries and has 46 years of nuclear experience. He has made numerous presentations on Middle East nuclear conflicts at local universities and has over 30 scientific publications.
