Shimbashi Izakaya invites you to a traditional Japanese New Year?s ceremony, ?Kagami-biraki?.
Kagami-biraki literally translates to "Opening the Mirror", which the lid of the sake barrel is broken open by a wooden mallet and the sake is served to everyone present. Because of the lid's round shape, the kagami is a symbol of harmony. The kagami-biraki, therefore, represents an opening to harmony and good fortune.
Shimbashi will celebrate the New Year with complimentary sake and tastes while listening to Japanese Chorus Group Kaguya perform.
Shimbashi will dedicate the New Year?s event to support a screening documentary ?311: In the Moment?. The film commemorates the earthquake and tsunami disaster of 2011 in Japan. A suggested donation of $10 would help to sponsor the screening and support tsunami victims.
Admission/Cost: $10 (Suggested Donation)
