Enjoy a cross-cultural night of music with kora virtuoso Amadou Fall and Brazilian singer Thalma de Freitas. The evening kicks off with Amadou, a native of Senegal, West Africa, and his performance featuring the kora. The kora, a 21 stringed instrument made of fishing line, wood, gourd and cow skin, is best described as the African harp.
The audience then crosses the Atlantic to hear Brazilian actress, singer and songwriter Thalma de Freitas. Thalma joins forces with Grammy award-winning producer, pianist and saxophonist Kamau Kenyatta to illuminate the power of Brazil's popular music. Performing compositions from the terreiros of Candomble (the birthplace of the modern samba) to Ivan Lins jazz-tinged statements, De Freitas? highly personal vision pays special attention to the social issues that her country's music describes.
