Music & Dance: Tango Nuevo

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
The Jewish Studies Program presents an evening filled with Tango music that explores the unique connection between Jewish composers and musicians from Poland and the way that they integrated tango music into their own repertoire.

Argentina?s modern Jewish community was born at roughly the same time as the Tango itself. Mass immigration to the country began in the 1890s.

By the 1920s, Tango had entered a golden age. Tango orchestras proliferated, and Jewish musicians and composers began to play an important role, as most of the famous Tango orchestras in Argentina included Jewish musicians.

This diverse concert features the talented musicians of Camarada- Lou Fanucchi, accordion, Jeff Pekarek, bass, Fred Benedetti, guitar and Elizabeth Schwartz, vocals, as well as live Tango dancing with award-winning Tango dancers Irina Bell Chalkevitch and Derek Bell.
