Created by soprano Susan Narucki of the UC San Diego music faculty in collaboration with Mexican author Jorge Volpi and four prominent composers, the chamber opera Cuatro Corridos follows the stories of women caught in human trafficking along the U.S./Mexico border.
The composers are UC San Diego's Lei Liang (winner of a prestigious 2015 Koussevitzky award) along with Hilda Paredes, Arlene Sierra and Hebert Vazquez. Cuatro Corridos premiered at UC San Diego in 2013 to great reviews.
San Diego Union-Tribune music critic Jim Chute called it a "powerful new chamber opera" and described Narucki's performance as "courageous". The opera eventually traveled to several locales including Mexico City and returns to UCSD for one night only.
The 7:00 PM performance will be preceded by a 5:00 PM symposium.
Admission/Cost:
Wednesday, January 13 - 7:00 PM
