The calamitous Syrian Conflict continues unabated, and despite recent initiatives to broker a peaceful resolution among the combatants and their supporters, prospects remain pessimistic. The Syrian government and its military forces are on one side, with disparate rebel factions as well as ISIS fighting against them, each with its own agenda. Retired American Diplomat, George Novinger will offer his perspectives on those involved and thoughts on what the future might bring to this troubled country as well as the Middle East. He will explore some of the political, economic, social, and religious environment in Syria leading up to the start of the ongoing conflict in Syria. He will discourse on the current critical issues in Syria and the Middle East to include; the major players involved, the Syrian refugee crisis, and deliberate on Syria's possible future forecast scenarios. A Q&A session will follow.

Biography:
George Novinger spent 23 years as an American Diplomat (1989-2012). He was Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy in Damascus, Syria from 2008 until late 2010. During his career, he served at three posts in Japan - Tokyo, Osaka, and Okinawa - and in South Korea, Hong Kong, Brunei, and Paraguay. He also served a tour in the State Department's Office of Operations in Washington D.C., and finished his career as the Southwestern Regional Director of the Department?s Office of Foreign Missions.
George graduated from Occidental College (Los Angeles) with a B.A. in Choral Music and a M.A. in Education, and earned a second M.A. from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University, in Washington D.C. He speaks English, Japanese, Spanish, and French, and is married to retired Peruvian Honorary Consul Gladys Novinger. George and Gladys currently own and operate Vineyard Hacienda (vineyardhacienda.com), a 9-acre boutique hotel and events property in Spring Valley (East San Diego).
