For generations, communities have demonstrated that the most effective responses to violence are often not through criminalization, but in the relationships and cultural practices that help the youth dream of a better future. Lowrider bikes are often the first vehicle through which youth express their individuality, cultural pride, and sense of belonging. Each bike carries with it the legacy of those who built, rode, and shared it, embodying the values that continue to sustain lowrider culture today. This exhibition brings together a display of lowrider bikes, contemporary artists, photographers, and special contributions of archival photo collections from local San Diego bike club chapters. Chrome and "Candy Dreams" honors the living heritage of the lowrider bike as a powerful rite of passage for generations of youth.
