Salman Rushdie will visit the University of California, San Diego to discuss his new autobiography Joseph Anton. Rushdie, who was sentenced to death 23 years ago by Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini for his work The Satanic Verses, recently released Joseph Anton, his personal account of his crucial battle for freedom of speech, the close bonds he formed with his protectors, his struggle for support and understanding and how he regained his freedom. Rushdie is also famous for his novel Midnight's Children which won the Booker Prize in 1981.
