The Folk Dance Center of San Diego will be hosting a celebration of music entitled "East of the Urals: An Evening of Carnatic and Klezmer Fusion Music." The event will include appearances by Dr. Mysore Manjunath, Yale Strom, and Lou Fanucchi.

Dr. Mysore Manjunath is world renowned as a virtuoso violinist who plays Carnatic classical music, one of the main genres of Indian music. He was born in the city of Mysore, a center for music, in South India. He trained on the violin under his father, Prof. Mahadevappa, a superb musician belonging to the Bidaram Krishnappa school in the lineage of Sri Thyagaraja, one of the great composers of South Indian classical music. Manjunath gave his first violin concert when he was just 8 years-old. A player exhibiting outstanding creativity and technical virtuosity, Manjunath was soon acknowledged as one of the brilliant exponents of Carnatic music in India. Manjunath has played at major world music and jazz festivals all throughout the world. He has collaborated with many reputed musicians including Mark O'Connor, Jai Uttal, Mark Wood, Joe Cravin, Fabrizio Cassol, and many more.

Klezmer violinist/ethnographer Yale Strom met Manjunath at the Mark O'Connor Strings Camp, where they were both instructors. They bonded through their love of music and collaboration.

Lou Fanucchi is considered one of the best accordion players in the United States, playing many different styles including klezmer with Yale's band Hot Pstromi since 1994. Enjoy an evening of Indian and Klezmer Fusion music and enjoy the chance to get an up close sonic look at this amazing trio.
